Material/Technique:
Fabricated anodized titanium (with resists), sterling silver, 8mm square lapis lazuli, rivets
Content description:
A half-circle of colorfully patterned anodized titanium is layered with a raised deep blue rectangle spilt to suggest the widening gap of a California fault line. A cube of lapis lazuli nestled in a fabricated sterling silver anchors the left side of the "fault line." Two cleverly placed rivets attach each layer to a pin backing; the effect is suggestive of the periodic marks of a seismograph. This brooch is a prime example of Resnikoff's pioneering use of industrial materials for jewelry.
