Mukherjee made Radiant Chromosphere after she asked residents of Silicon Valley to tell her about how they had experienced the nomadic in their lives. Some people told her stories about immigration to the region, and others talked about roots they wanted to maintain or establish in the area. The elements Mukherjee includes in the extended description of the hybrid film were all mentioned in the residents’ stories. Natural elements such as physical geography and the sun’s energetic rays are depicted along with images that represent human labor, technological innovation, and diverse cultural influences. These elements work in concert in the moving digital collage created by the artist in much the way they have worked together over time to shape the physical, social, and economic landscape of the Silicon Valley region.
