Even though they can't be in their homes to enjoy the greatest of American spiritual holidays, their day is made as happy as possible throught the decorations, gifts and entertainment provided by the Veteran Hospitals' Christmas Committee. Since 1924, this unique non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian committee has brought Yule happiness to wounded and sick servicemen in the Alameda County veterans hospitals through the contribution os interested groups and individuals. The picture was made by Deith Dennison, of The Tribune camera staff." Photo shows two men, one in a wheelchair opening a large wrapped Christmas present in his lap. Standing next to him is a man on crutches with a gift tucked under his left arm. They are standing in front of a fake tree decorated like a Christmas tree. Photo used on the cover of the Oakland Tribune Magazine Pictorial for Sunday December 7, 1947.
