The clipping, dated June 17, 1957, on the back of the photo reads " A TRIUMPH FOR TRAFFIC - Black and white lines show the path of the 4.5 mile Walnut Creek Bypass freeway, due to be completed in 2 1/2 years at a cost of $7,925.295. Construction will be begin on the freeway's western terminuis on the Pleasant Hill Interchange on Mt.Diablo Blvd. The freeway will fork north toward Concord joining the Monument Freeway on North Main St., and south toward Danville, to near Castle Hill Rd." Walnut Creek's downtown can be seem in a triangle of land between Main street and what is now Interstate 680. Commercial buildings and a scattering of houses is in the triangle. Orchards lie to the south, and a school campus is at center. The road to Danvuille heads from right lower, toward Concord off at upper right, joining with the road from Oakland at upper right at Mt.Diablo Blvd.
