[The clipping attached to this photo looks as though it doesn't match the scene, but nevertheless we willproceed with the clipping and the image JM 10/16/2000] The Tribune clipping, dated January 3, 1955, on the back of the photo reads "Route of Walnut Creek bypass freeway will split Okialand-Contra Costa traffic around Walnut Creek in connection with the tunnel road is shown above [probably shown in Tribune columns but not in this photo]. ................will permit free flow of traffic in all directions to and from Walnut Creek. Part of the project, to right of Main street crossing, will be started this summer for divided freeway from Hookston Monument to Walnut Creek outskirts. Proposed route of four lane freeway from Walnut Creek bypass to a mile south of Danville is indicated on lower photo. Perspective distortion makes the route appear more curved than it will be. Highway Commission has not yet given fianl approbval to this route." What we see here is the a long curving highway running from Dnville to Dublin off in the distance, parallel to the side of the photo.
