The Tribune clipping, dated November 13, 1958, on the back of the photo reads "ANOTHER FREEWAY A-BUILDING The Walnut Creek-Danville [now Interstate 680] Freeway, now about 60 percent complete, is expected to open in January, 1960, This link in the future intersate highway system begins east of Pleasant Hill Blvd. by passing Walnut Creek south to Crest Ave. and north to Walden Road. Work beyond Crest awaits funds." The photo, which looks northwards from south of Walnut Creek, shows orchards as well as houses. The road from Danville is at bottom left toward Concord off to the upper right. The road [now Highway 24] to Orinda is at upper left. A school campus, including an oval running track is at right center.
